Trebra (1740-1819), became inspector of mines for the government of Hannover in 1779 and spent more than a decade at Zellerfeld, in the Harz Mountains, where he greatly developed the metal-mining industry of the Upper Harz. During an earlier assignment at Ilmenau, Trebra met Goethe, who had charge of the Ilmenau mines. Trebra accompanied Goethe in his geological wanderings through the Harz as a friend and collaborator. They remained close friends for nearly forty years. The present work is concerned with tunneling techniques developed at the famous mining academy at Freiberg. Lacks the errata leaf at end.
