Petrograd, IMO, 1918. Small folio, pp. 58; some stains to first and last leaves; in the original illustrated wrappers designed by Mayakovsky, restored and mounted on tissue with some loss to edges. First edition of this anthology of previously published poems on the theme of revolution. It includes a foreword by Lunacharsky (the first Communist Director of Culture), a prose passage by Boris Kushner, and poems by Nikolai Aseev, David Burlyuk, Vasily Kamensky, Velimir Khlebnikov, and Mayakovsky. The adjective rzhanoi, literally 'rye', acquired connotations of 'simple', 'peasant', and 'Russian' and became almost synonymous with 'new' (novyi) in 1918.Rowell & Wye 190 & p. 165; Russian Modernism 692.
