London Bickers & Son 1886 First edition in English of both novels. The first work was translated byIsabel Burton and the second by Isabel and Richard Burton. Alencar is considered the father of modern Brazilian literature. Although the book was remaindered in the beginning of the last century, it has become a rather rare volume today.
