HENDERSON, JAMES D.
News-Letter of the LXIVMOS.
(Brookline, MA 1927-1929) Numbers 1 to 21, though only the supplement to number 7 is present. Various sizes and pagination. The ninth number in this series was printed at the Black Sun Press in an edition of 450 copies. Henderson's newsletter, which began in November 1927 as a broadside leaf printed on one side, has become a key reference work in the world of miniature book collecting. Laid into this copy are two miniature letters, one of which is addressed to Robert Henderson and appears to have been sent through the mail, as it bears a cancelled stamp. This letter, dated 2/17/33, measuring 7/8 by 5/8 inch, is written in pencil, and asks "Hendy" to inform him should the correspondence not reach him. The second letter, addressed to James Henderson, thanks him for a miniature Koran, and then continues, "I have a dreadful fear that I may become a collector." This letter measures 1 3/8 by 1 inch; its envelope is sealed with wax and bears a minuscule painted two-cent stamp. Some light wrinkling, several sheets show signs of folding, else fine in cloth folding case. Although the newsletters were reprinted in a single volume by Lilliputter Press in 1968, this is a rare opportunity to own a nearly complete set in its original parts. With bookplate of Clarice Hamill, a miniature-book collector and wife of prominent Chicago collector and philanthropist Alfred E. Hamill.
