STEINBECK, JOHN.
The Winter of Our Discontent.
NY Viking 1961 First edition. One of 500 copies specially bound for friends of the author and publishers. This was Steinbeck's last full-length novel, as well as the book for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. This copy is inscribed by Steinbeck to his friend Chase Horton. Horton collaborated with Steinbeck on the unfinished project that became The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights, for which Horton was given editorial credit. At one point during the correspondence between them, which is quoted in King Arthur, Steinbeck tells Horton, "I never worked with anyone who was more fun to work with. You catch fire the way I do" (p. 302). A significant association copy. Extremely fine in gilt-titled blue cloth and fine dust wrapper with small nicks to extremities. With acetate over-wrapper on which is printed "Limited Edition." Housed in cloth chemise and morocco-backed slipcase. (Goldstone & Payne A38.a).
