Buc'hoz, Pierre-Joseph

Herbier colorié du Japon faisont suite à l'herbier colorié des plantes de la Chine. Gravé d'après des desseins coloriés au Japon.

A Paris, chez l’auteur, 1792. Folio. (48 x 30 cm). Engraved title-leaf + 34 hand-coloured engraved plates (numbered 1–34 (of 36 or 39?). This extremely rare work, devoted to Japanese plants, was apparently issued as a supplement to Buc’hoz’ Herbier ou Collection des plants médicinales de la Chine originally published at Paris in 1781 (Hunt 661) and apparently re-issued in 1788–91 (Brunet, 1, col. 1371). Unfortunately there is no text, no set of descriptions to identify the ‘figures’ on the plates. Nissen 286 (no collation). Brunet, 1, col. 1372 (38 plates). There is a copy in Bibliothèque Nationale containing 39 plates, 36 of which are numbered I–XXXVI and three unnumbered (supplied from another work by Buc’hoz?). Not in Pritzel. Not in Hunt.
