Robert Arthur machte sich einen Namen als Gründer der dritten zahnmedizinischen Fakultät Amerikas, dem Philadelphia College of Dental Surgery, im Jahre 1852, später das Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery, dessen Dekan er 1856 wurde. Unter den 48 "Matriculants" finden wir bereits 2 aus Deutschland. J.H.McQuillen war dort Professor für Anatomy und Physiologie und wurde dort 1865 Dekan. Er machte sich ein einen unsterblichen Namen als der erste Editor des "Dental Cosmos".
