Venice, Giovanni Battista Pasquali, 1743. 4to, pp. xxiv, 152, with 15 engraved folding plates of coins; small wax stain in gutter of title-page but an excellent copy in attractive modern marbled boards. Elegant edition of Patarolo's only numismatic work, printed by Pasquali whose general publishing outlook was guided by his patron Consul Joseph Smith who had a controlling interest in the firm.Patarolo was a wealthy scholar who occupied himself with the cultivation of plants and the assembly of a fine numismatic and natural history collection. He was the founder of the first botanical garden in Venice. After Patarolo's death, Francesco III, Duke of Modena, acquired his two collections.Cicognara 2961 (first edition of 1702).
