First edition of the first and only number of a rare Russian art journal. It is divided into two main sections, one literary, the other artistic, but begins with a short collection of poems, by Blok, Viacheslav Ivanov, Kuzmin, Voloshin, Makovsky, Cherubina, Gorodetsky, Borodaevsky, Tarasov, Rukavishnikov, and Briullova. The artistic part has illustrations and architectural designs by Anisfeld, Alexandre Benois, Bilibin, Gaush, Kardovsky, Lukomsky, Nikolai and Yevgeny Lansere, Mitrokhin, Novodvorskaya, Ostroumova-Lebedeva, Petrov-Vodkin (Mantel contributes a short piece on the 'Russian Gauguin'), Somov, and Tamanov. The literary part includes contributions from Petrov-Vodkin ('A trip to Africa'), Chulkov, Kurbatov (on Russian decorative art), Mantel (the popularity of art), Camille Mauclair (contemporary memorials), Lukomsky (the artist and the theatre), with illustrations by Vrubel and Valloton.
