He wrote on a variety of subjects--astronomy. mysticism, numismatics, gynecology, monsters, light, phosphorescence and gems. "...there is an epitaph cut on a block of white and red marble, which exists in Bologna. As it is a complete enigma, it has exercised the wits of many persons for three hundred years to find out its meaning and application," Ferguson I,6. In the "Theatrum Chemicum" it is seen as alchemical and related to the philosopher's stone. [See Ferguson I,6 for a discussion.] "Licetus reads the whole philosophy of Aristotle into the monument. He mentions the report that it was 'sculptured in stone, formerly set in a high position on the walls of St Peter's,'...He thinks the inscription contains the summation of a serious philosophical theory about the origin of mundane things, a theory that was 'scientifico-moralis' or 'etico-physica.'' C.G.Jung, Mysterium Coniunctionis, p85. Bruni/ Evans, Cambridge,2987. Graesse IV,202.
