Rambles at the Antipodes: a Series of Sketches...
W.H. Smith and Son, London, 1859. Small octavo, with 12 tinted lithograph plates and two folding maps; a very good copy in the original pictorial boards, later cloth spine, preserved in a folding box. Illustrated account of Australasian travel by the radical democratic owner-editor of the Argus, based on extensive travels throughout Australasia in the later 1850s. The twelve plates by S.T. Gill were commissioned for the book and represent one of few examples of his work illustrating other people's books.
This copy of the first edition is in the very rare original pictorial boards; Ferguson and Abbey only knew various cloth bindings of this first edition.

All items are guaranteed as described. If an item is not as described, it is returnable within seven days of receipt, unless other arrangements are made. Full refunds are given only when items are received in the same condition in which they were sent.
