Heute zum erstenmal: Der furchtbare Feuerkampf im Tempel des Pluto. Mit hoher Bewilligung wird die hier anwesende Königliche Preuss. General-concessionirte Reit-, Trampolin-, Seil-, und Stelzentänzer-Gesellschaft unter der Direction des Ernst Wehle heute und die folgenden Tage mehrere ausserordentliche Vorstellungen zu geben die Ehre haben.

Breslau, [1821.] Broadside, 234 x 370 mm.; with large dramatic woodcut (153 x 335 mm.) at top; dated '1821' in Ms.; in excellent condition on full, uncut sheet. Poster advertising the acrobatics company Ernst Wehle whose performance with tightrope, trampoline and stilt-acts was to finish with an impressive fire act performance. The woodcut, in dramatic and bold, black on white style, curiously expressionistic, depicts two knights in full armour in the Temple of Pluto thrashing each others with swords, while fire spurts out of their raised shield, their helmets, feet and knees.Ernst Wehle was still performing, under the name of 'Circus Gymnasticus', in Sweden in the summer of 1834.
