Stuttgart, in der Cottaischen Buchhandlung, 1819. 8vo, pp. 80, some light spotting throughout but avery good copy in the original printed turquoise glazed paper wrappers, front cover with 'Festgedichte Weimar 18ter December 1818' surrounded by typographical border. %d First edition of the complete text of the masked procession of 18 December 1818, anonymously composed by Goethe in celebration of the visit of Maria Feodorowna to her daughter the Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna in Weimar. Maria Pavlovna Romanov (1786-1859), younger sister of Alexander I and Nicholas I, who had married Carl Friedrich, Crown Prince of Saxe-Weimar in 1804. She remained in Weimar for the next half century. Goethe's text includes also preliminary announcements of the masked procession, and a list of people taking part, among them Goethe himself (as Mephistopheles), von Münchhausen, Frl. von Schiller, Vulpius, Frl. von Herder, von Arnim, Frau von Goethe, etc.Goedeke IV/3, 491, 107; Hagen, Drucke von Goethes Werken, 405.
