Small 8vo, pp. xxiii, 111, title and text in French and Italian on facing pages with additional engraved title-page in form of a ancient Roman epitaph, 50 engraved plates (some in out-line), and the very rare supplement 'compassione' with engraved title and 19 engraved plates; a few light spots here and there but an excellent copy in 19th century quarter purple calf and marbled boards. First Italian translation of Le Brun's physiognomy, first published Paris in 1667. The translator was the painter Pier Antonio Perotti, director of the Fine Arts accademy in Verona. He based his translation on the Amsterdam edition of 1713 and used similar illustrations. The book is dedicated to the painter count Pietro Rottari.Cicognara 300.
