Later edition. Hans Kangro (DSB 12, 313) suggests that the book was first published in 1600 though he had not seen a copy and most authorities give 1618 as the date of the first edition.
§ This work on natural history was one of Sennert's chief works and Partington includes it in his list of Sennert's books relevant to the history of chemistry. Chapter IV is 'De lapidibus et gemmis'; and V 'De metallis'. The second part 'Auctarium epitomes physicae' (first printed at Wittenberg in 1635) is based on chapters 11 and 12 of Sennert's De chymicorum cum Aristotelicis et Galenicis consensu ac dissensu and is entirely on chemistry. It is of some interest that this copy has an English binding and provenance as a competing edition was published in Oxford in 1653 and reprinted in 1664.
