The Washington Bridge over the Harlem River, at 181st Street, New York City. A Description of its Construction.

Large 4to, orig. cloth (ends of spine worn, cloth a little soiled & tired), upper cover & spine lettered in gilt. New York: L. von Rosenberg, [1889]. First edition of this finely illustrated history of the construction of the Washington Bridge which spans the Harlem River. A two-hinged arch bridge designed by William R. Hutton and Edward H. Kendall, it featured steel arch construction with two 510-foot long main spans and masonry approaches. The construction lasted from the middle of 1886 until the beginning of 1889; the total length of the bridge, including approaches, was 2,375 feet (724 m). The parallel main spans of the steel arch bridge stretched 510 feet (160 m) over the Harlem River, providing 134 feet (41 m) of vertical clearance and 354 feet (108 m) of horizontal clearance.
