About Us
In 1906 Carl Ewald Rappaport founded the firm in Rome after nearly ten years experience in some of the most distinguished German antiquarian bookshops such as Boerner at Leipzig and Rosenthal in Munich.
Today his daughter Elisabeth Rappaport Seacombe and his grandson Bernard Seacombe have taken over. They deal in early continental books printed up to the late 19th century of which they offer a good selection in a great variety of subjects: Italian literature, fine arts, architecture, science and medicine, economy, philosophy, history, geography, Rome guides, illustrated books, etc. Prints and maps are also available, especially Rome views, including many by Piranesi.
The shop is in the centre of Rome, on the first floor of a 17th century building. Via Sistina runs from Piazza Barberini to the top of the renowned Spanish steps. Number 23 is almost opposite a well known theatre.

Catalogues are published and most descriptions are in English or with an English note. If you wish to receive them please state your interests, but please note that maps and prints are not included in the catalogues and that the firm does not deal in modern first editions, second hand or out of print books.
