Description of shop:

Astrolabe Booksellers is the leading antiquarian/ second-hand/used bookseller in Australia's island state and proprietor Michael Sprod is a long-standing member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Antiquarian Booksellers. Our premises are located on the first floor of a refurbished early colonial warehouse in Hobart's historic Salamanca Place, adjacent to the Sullivan's Cove wharves. This area was once the thriving centre of the Southern Ocean whaling trade and, then as now, the departure port for many Antarctic voyages. Today, it is thriving again, but now as the home of arts and craft galleries, and many Hobart's best cafes and restaurants - not to mention several good bookshops.

We carry a good range of antiquarian and second-hand books on a wide variety of subjects, specialising in works on Tasmania, Australia, Antarctica, Aborigines (especially Tasmanian), and maritime subjects.

Sales information: We accept Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club, or cheques in Australian Dollars (AUD) drawn on an Australian bank. Postage and handling, insurance and bank charges are extra - we will advise the actual cost prior to shipping. We recommend (and will use unless otherwise instructed) an economy air service (Skippy Post / Spring Global Mail) which is not much more expensive than Sea Mail but much quicker (2-3 weeks as opposed to 10-12 weeks). Any book may be returned if you are not satisfied: please advise us promptly if this is the case, and return the item in its original packing as soon as possible.
