Bedazzled by Burney - Sales of Frances Burney Books, Manuscripts & Images

Bedazzled by Burney - Sales of Frances Burney Books, Manuscripts & Images

For recent market values in manuscripts, printed writings, and images of English novelist, Frances Burney, we now have Maureen E. Mulvihill's illustrated essay, "Bedazzled by Burney," commissioned by The Burney Letter (editor, Lorna Clark) and now hosted on The Burney Centre website (McGill University, Montreal, Canada). Maureen E. Mulvihill's essay includes several images of recent Burney acquisitions, as well as a biographical sketch of one of Burney's principal collectors: Paula Fentress Peyraud (1947-2008; Chappaqua, NY), the "dark lady of rare book collectors". This essay also features a dedicated list of recent Burney sales, with prices & buyers, at the auction of the Peyraud Collection (NY, May 2009). Of special interest in this piece is the first-ever identification of the NYC buyer of the John Bogle miniature portrait of Burney (and her mother), cherished by Burney devotées.
