In an outstanding exhibition the Bamberg State Library presents over 165 medieval manuscripts, codices and fragments from its rich collection which goes back to the donations made by Heinrich II during the first half of the 11th century. On show are rarities of the medieval art of book illumination which were copied and coloured in famous monasteries such as Fulda, Regensburg, Seeon and Reichenau. Bound in magnificent bindings made of ivory, gold, silver and silk the books are pieces of art in themselves. One of many highlights is the “Sakramentar” of Heinrich II.
