This work mentions the discoveries and conquests done by portugueses and castilians in Asia, Africa and America. With many historical, politic, economic and religious references. The part of America is mostly about Brazil, describing it very accurately. Paper lightly brownished, title page and first folio with small hole on lower margin not affecting the text, last folio with worm hole in the inner margin no affecting the text. However good copy. Small stains in the borders. The covers a little bit worn. 48 beautiful coloured aquatint plates taken from the original drawings of the italian artist Luigi Mayer under the auspices of Sir Robert Ainslie (1730 - 1812), antiquary, numismatist and Ambassador to Constantinople (1776 - 1792). With 24 views of Palestine and 24 of Caramania, part of Minor Asia, Rodas, Chipre, Corintio, Cartago, etc. Title, descriptive text, engraving's title in English and French, 4 leaves of texte with small stains that do not affect the engravings. Historique geography with 62 double page mounted maps (plates: 180 x 235 mm.): 15 of America, 12 of Europe, 31 of Asia, 4 of Africa. 1volume title with four parts: part 1: Europe, part 2: Asia, part 3 : Africa, part 4: America (including a map of California as an island, Canada and the Northeast U.S. and Great Lakes regions, Florida). Paper lightly brownished. Waterstain in the outside margin of the first 5 pages (title page and introduction), 6 last pages and and in the margins of the map of Isles Britanniques. 2 pages of index with a small and well done restoration. Very small hole in the Guatimala's map. Map of Isles Britanniques with waterstain on margins. Some few pages with small missing in the lower margin, not affecting plates. Maps clean. However, extraordinary good condition of this rare work.
