The extensive collections of Dr. John Loder, noted bibliographer of Australian Crime Fiction. The sale includes the first editions of two of the rarest and most sought after keystones in the literature of Detective fiction, the First Sherlock Holmes Story, A Study in Scarlet and the rare 1886 Melbourne First Edition of The Mystery of a Hansom Cab by Fergus Hume. A Study in Scarlet is one of only twelve known copies in private hands (eighteen held by institutions), while The Mystery of a Hansom Cab is one of only four known copies and the only one in private hands (two copies held in the Mitchell Library, Sydney, and one held by the Baillieu Library, University of Melbourne). Dr. Loder's best-known collection is a comprehensive survey of 19th and 20th century Australian Crime Fiction, including early 20th-century pulp fiction. This is largest private collection ever assembled. The sale also includes important First Editions of modern English Literature as well as British and American Crime Fiction.
