The seminar on collecting John Camden Hotten will be given by Simon Eliot, Director of the London Rare Books School, as well as Professor of the History of the Book at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, Deputy Director of its Centre for Manuscript and Print Studies and visiting Professor of Book History at the Open University. Simon Eliot's publications include Some Patterns and Trends in British Publishing 1800-1919 1994 and A Handbook to Literary Research (with W. R. Owens) 1998. He was an Associate Editor of the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and has recently been appointed general editor of the new four-volume History of Oxford University Press.

The seminars on various aspects of book collecting are held regularly on the second Tuesday of each month of the academic year at the University of London’s Senate House in central London. Organised jointly by the Institute of English Studies (London University) and the Rare Book Society, the speakers are all drawn from among the leading booksellers, academics, historians and collectors. The seminars are aimed at a broad audience including bookcollectors, antiquarian booksellers, historians, librarians, and anyone with an interest in collecting.
