Three prints by Joseph Wright (1734-1797), George Garrard (1760-1826) and Theodore Gericault (1791-1824) depicting blacksmiths at work are the inspiration for In the Blacksmith Shop at the National Sporting Library and Museum. Rare books, horse shoes of different equine occupations, and blacksmith tools show the history of the farrier at work. Rare books from the Library’s collection tell the story of the role horseshoes play in the animal’s health.
