Melbourne Rare Book Week commenced in 2012 as a partnership between ANZAAB, the University of Melbourne and eight other literary institutions. It was strongly supported by the City of Melbourne and it was seen as a celebration of Melbourne's designation as a UNESCO City of Literature. In 2013 the partnership increased to 19 libraries, literary and historical societies and bookshops. Over 30 free events were held at different venues throughout Melbourne, attracting local, national and international visitors. The 2014 program promises to be another outstanding event, which will include the biennial University of Melbourne Cultural Treasures Festival. Existing partners are already working on their individual events and expressions of interest have been received from other libraries and societies. Melbourne Rare Book Week culminates in the 42nd ANZAAB Australian Antiquarian Book Fair (Melbourne Rare Book Fair). The Book Fair will once again be held in the University of Melbourne's historic Wilson Hall. Melbourne Rare Book Week will also coincide with the annual Open House Melbourne (OHM) held in the last weekend of July, with the Book Fair venue, Wilson Hall, being included in the OHM program.
