    Fraîchement de retour du Louvre où il a été convié en tant que conservateur invité (pas moins que ça !), Umberto Eco inaugurera en septembre 2010 le Congrès et la Foire Internationale de la LILA avec sa conférence intitulée  Le vertige de la liste et du catalogue.

    Un débat, depuis quelques mois, jette les bibliophiles dans le trouble. Vous savez la passion qu’inspire aux amis des livres la possession d’une édition originale. Or, voici que beaucoup d’entre eux viennent de s’aviser à la longue qu’ils ne savaient plus très bien ce qu’ils aimaient, faute de s’entendre exactement sur ce que c’est qu’une édition originale.

    Where to start with Hemingway? Ernest Hemingway has been avidly collected pretty much from the start of his career. His first book, Three Stories and Ten Poems (1923) issued in wrappers in an edition of 300 copies, originally came in an unprinted glassine sleeve, the presence of which can dramatically increase the cost of the book.

The workshop for antiquarian booksellers was founded in Munich 40 years ago. Since then it is held every spring with lectures by scholars and colleagues about book history and the trade, excursions to libraries and museums, practical courses in book restoration or the care of prints and photographs, and discussion groups related to legal, economic or technical questions of our everyday business. Legendary are the evening dinners.

    Baedeker’s travel guides were the premium travel guides of the second half of the 19th and the first part of the 20th century, giving rise to the verse: “Kings and governments may err – but never Mr. Baedeker.” They are keenly collected, and some of them are extremely rare, like the famous and seldom seen “Athen” Baedeker from 1896, which was not sold outside Greece.
