Albert Kapr, one of the greatest typographers of the 20th century, would have celebrated his 100th birthday on 20 July 2018. The German Museum of Books and Writing will be celebrating the occasion by dedicating an exhibition to the book artist, professor, rector, historian and author. Albert Kapr was not only a true master of his field, but also spearheaded an especially productive era in the history of typography in Leipzig.
The exhibits chosen from Kapr’s prolific output come from the artist’s estate, which after his death in 1995 was stored in the museum. As the museum’s collections were integrated into the German National Library’s portal at the beginning of 2018, it is now also possible to research them there.
The exhibition is being staged in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts in Leipzig. For the exhibition, students at the Academy studied Kapr’s text "Die Kunst des Bücherkaufens" ("The Art of Buying Books") and will be presenting their personal choice of the best and most beautiful books.
